History
The labradoodle was born in Australia in the 1970s. They were looking for the ideal guide dog with an anti-allergenic coat.
Wally Conran, the driving force behind the project, used the labrador and the poodle for this. The Labrador because he is known for his qualities as a service dog and the Poodle for his non-allergic coat. Hello Doodle!
In reality, it took several breeds (besides the Labrador and the Poodle) to create the Australian Labradoodle: including the Irish Water Spaniel, the Curly Coated Retriever, and the American and English Cocker Spaniel. The result is a fantastic dog with an easy-to-maintain coat.
Coat and Grooming
The Australian Labradoodle has a non-shedding coat and is 98% allergy free. That’s super handy. This easy-care and beautiful coat has no typical dog smell. Regular brushing is necessary to keep the coat in good condition, but washing is not often necessary. The coat has a self-cleaning ability. That’s easy!
